Tim Carwell is a finalist for two ASTech Awards, recognized for his work on the InTech Program and The Goodwill Project
We proudly announce that Tim Carwell, President of The CommAlert Group and citizen of Beaver First Nation, is on the finalist list for Technology Alberta’s 2022 ASTech Awards.
The ASTech awards celebrate technology and innovation in Alberta, recognizing the innovative people and organizations who collectively champion Alberta’s dynamic tech industry.
“I feel privileged to make the finalist list for these important awards. I love using my experience in technology to help others. We have so many opportunities to lift up others and build strong, inclusive, and healthy communities within the industry. Thank you for this honour.” – Tim Carwell
The Goodwill Project
In January 2022, Tim and the CommAlert Team initiated The Goodwill Project. This initiative rewarded a local small business CommAlert’s fully furnished downtown Edmonton office, with the lease and internet paid for two years.
Local tech startup RUNWITHIT Synthetics won The Goodwill Project prize and is also nominated for a 2022 ASTech Award.
Tim and CommAlert worked with Norquest College to create the IndTech Program for Indigenous youth (ages 15 to 30). It is an employability and technical training program that includes funded work experience. The program’s goal is to help remove barriers to employment for Indigenous youth and assist employers in the tech industry in filling worker shortages.
“I’d really like to thank Amtelco and my colleagues from the CAM-X association for jumping on board with the IndTech Program. Everyone was excited to get involved and to help give the tools and work experience needed to help these students succeed.” – Tim Carwell.
Leadership and Generosity in Crisis
Anyone who has met Tim has seen his passion for spreading goodwill to others, supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, and creating visibility for under-represented people and communities.
During the pandemic, Tim co-founded a business continuity website with free resources, mentorship and information to help businesses navigate the early stages and difficulties of the pandemic.
Later, Tim initiated the Pay It For U campaign, which raised over $40,000 for local small businesses, and recognized front-line workers during the most challenging parts of the pandemic.
He often has his hand in several community-building projects at the same time. Tim and the CommAlert team use their enthusiasm and understanding of technology to create opportunities for others and to enrich the community.
The 33rd Annual ASTech Awards Gala is on November 4th, 2022, from 4:00 – 10:00 PM at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) PIC Centre.
